Island Info - Diamond Cove, MaineDiamond Cove, on Great Diamond Island in Casco Bay, is Maine’s premier island community. The heart of Diamond Cove is Fort McKinley, designed to defend Portland Harbor during the Spanish-American War. Built between 1891 and 1907, Fort McKinley housed more than 1,000 soldiers in brick barracks and Queen Anne-style officers’ quarters surrounding a stately parade ground. The fort was retired from active service in 1945. As a self-contained community, Diamond Cove has a lot to offer, including swimming pools, tennis courts, health club, indoor basketball, bowling, pinball machines, and billiards. There are also scenic walking trails and a full service marina. Rentals If you are interested in experiencing life on Diamond Cove, a select number of homeowners are pleased to offer a limited number of privately owned residences for rent. Diamond’s Edge Restaurant Diamond Cove is home to Diamond’s Edge Restaurant, a five star restaurant operated seasonally by John Howard and Peter McCullum. The restaurant offers the best in casual elegant dinner and is also available for weddings, family reunions, and corporate events. The restaurant is open from late May through Columbus Day. General Store In addition to the restaurant there is a General Store on Diamond Cove which is open seasonally from the end of May through Labor Day.
